Candlelight and wreath ceremonies today at the UN

A wreath-laying ceremony for ten staff members killed by last week’s earthquake will take place today at 4:50 pm  ET (16.50 hours) at UN Headquarters in New York City. The ceremony will be webcast (http://www.un.org/webcast) for those who cannot attend.

The names of the victims, who worked at the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti, include three Americans:

  • Mr. Andrew Grene, Special Assistant to the Special Representative of the Secretary-General,
  • Ms. Lisa Mbele-Mbong, Human Rights Officer, and
  • Ms. Ericka Chambers Norman, Board of Inquiry Officer.

At the conclusion of the wreath-laying ceremony, there will be a candlelight vigil in the plaza outside the UN General Assembly Building.
